Roan Alvarez

Roan Alvarez is a visual artist who primarily works with intermedia and transmedia. Through physical computing, Alvarez explores the sociopolitical effects of technology on identities, self-presentation, and culture. Her interactive works often involve the use of light-emitting technologies, microcontrollers, sensors, and other electronic components, which allow the audience to participate in diverse narratives concerning human-technology relations. She earned her BFA in painting from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2015 and has been actively exhibiting since 2014. Alvarez participated in the Maybank Foundation Artist Fellowship Programme (Kuala Lumpur, MY) in 2024–2025 and the Artist x Producer x Engineer Camp (Seoul, KR) under Arts Council Korea in 2025.
