Marika Callangan

Marika Callangan (b. 1990) is a visual artist based in Metro Manila, Philippines, whose work explores how images can be feminized to reclaim perceptions of the female form, femininity, and female rage. Shifting between digital and analog approaches, her vibrant practice often takes shape in collages and found objects expanded through materials rooted in feminine traditions—sewing, embroidery, beadwork, and appliquéing. Grounded in personal experience, her playful approach to sexualized imagery appropriates dominant visual languages of femininity and reframes them through a feminist lens. By feminizing visual forms—from the immense to the intimate—she exposes the tensions embedded in gendered power structures, creating space for reimagining women's autonomy and emancipation. She is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines.
