Dave Lock

Working across drawing, painting, and modified found objects, Dave Lock explores the primal and the obsessive. His work often revolves around a complex fixation with detail and its paradoxical marriage with the primitive. Most of his artworks are portraits, which he regards as the simplest, most natural way to express the subconscious of an individual. As an overthinker, he is constantly energized by the intricate and often unseen systems that surround us—the clockwork of organisms, both human and non-human, that operate in the framework of our daily lives. His work reflects this awareness, attempting to capture the reciprocity of emotions, sensations, and the amalgamation of surreal aesthetics. These are slivers of dreams and memories trapped in the waking world, mirrors of thoughts and stories that are impossible to express in words—alien, otherworldly, and yet so familiar when we take a moment to confront them.
